Today I watched the slideshow about The 7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners. I have to say that the most difficult habit for me is #3 Viewing problems as challenges. I often have a tendency to use a problem as an excuse to give up on something. So – I need to work on that! The easiest habit for me is #2 Accept responsibility for your own learning. This is something that I have come to more in my adult life, not so much in my K-12 or college days!
I liked thinking about learning in this way. This presentation helped me to think about other learning that I am interested in pursuing. For example I recently took some kayaking classes because I wanted to be able to safely navigate the Missouri River. I knew that was my goal from the beginning and now I feel like I can do it. (Also, because I had my goal in mind I am not pursuing the rolling or white water classes!!!)
On another topic, I have been wanting to learn a new language, but I really don’t have a goal or a reason so I need to think about that some more.
